As we get older it can be hard to know what type of stationary bikes are best to meet the capabilities that we need.
For the later years of life (some say the best years), it’s important to keep a consistent exercise regime.
It could be anything such as walking, jogging, or lifting weights but what I want to focus on here is the best stationary bikes for senior citizens.
Why Choose a Stationary Bike?
A stationary bike is a great piece of fitness equipment that can offer an incredible workout but at the same time has a very low impact on your joints.
This is excellent for keeping your heart fit and healthy helps promote muscle tone and isn’t as harsh on your joints as running or jogging would be.
Research has also suggested that using a stationary bike can also improve cognitive function and even stave off the effects associated with diabetes.
For the sole reasons discussed above, I do highly recommend a stationary bike for seniors simply due to the enormous benefits of using one.
You can easily pick up a great stationary bike that offers a full effective workout that comes in quite affordable.
That’s what we’ll be discussing here!
But first, let’s have a look at some of the things you should keep an eye out for before purchasing.
What To Look Out For
The Type of Stationary Bike
So as the name suggests a stationary bike is simply a bike that doesn’t necessarily move as an outdoor bike would.
Now, stationary bikes do come in a few forms.
You have your:
- Upright Bike
- Recumbent Bike
- Indoor Cycling Bike
- Air Bike
Now, indoor cycling bikes and air bikes are designed for intense cardio workouts.
They try and get the heart pumping so you’re reaching your maximum level of output.
So, for senior citizens that may have weaker joints or heart problems I wouldn’t necessarily suggest one of these.
What we’re going to be looking at here is either the Upright Bike or the Recumbent Bike.
What Weight Can It Hold?
When researching for a new stationary bike, always check what is the maximum weight it can hold.
The more affordable bikes may not be able to hold as much weight as some of the more expensive bikes simply down to their design, manufacturing, and how robust they are.
But don’t worry I’ll list out what weight each stationary bike can hold!
Is It Easily Accessible?
If you have poor mobility or are still recovering from some form of surgery, you’ll want a stationary bike that is easily accessible.
The last thing you want is to be buying a stationary bike that is more hassle than it’s worth.
Although the bikes I have listed here, make it very easy to get on and off the bike without any real trouble.
Your Space
This is another big factor here.
Before you think of buying your own stationary bike, always check the space where you’ll be using it first!
Check there is going to be enough space where you can place the bike with additional room for getting on and off the bike.
I’ll be providing the exact dimensions of each stationary bike here anyway so you’ll no what best fits your space.
Supported Backrest
Exercising can take its toll on the body and can sometimes direct pressure toward your back.
If you already suffer from poor mobility, arthritis, or have lower back problems then having a supported backrest can really make the difference.
It will keep pain at bay by supporting your back allowing you to stay on the stationary bike for longer.
