Recently I’ve been looking into a lot of different indoor cycling apps and I’ve discovered some poor apps however some incredible apps also.
I am ultimately looking to see which apps could help me and possibly you with your indoor cycling to always make it more fun, enjoyable but provide an awesome workout at the same time.
This is when I came across Ciclozone.
Nowadays there seems to be a big focus on personalised training.
What I mean by this is that people want to be able to see their own personalised real-time cycling metrics displayed in front of them.
Ciclozone is an app that is now looking to cater to this market.
It is a performance enhancing indoor cycling app that measures your current output and power you put into the bike to be able to deliver a cycling class designed around you.
How does it do this exactly?
Well when you first sign up to Ciclozone, you will be asked to take a FTP test (Functional Threshold Power).
This is a test used by a number of cycling apps such as Zwift that measures your power output into your bike.
Once you have completed the FTP test, the app will show you what your FTP number is.
Here it will be able to interpret your information and deliver the classes set out to always make sure your are constantly improving as your fitness levels improve.
There is a lot to benefit from Ciclozone and it offers a number of features that I think are great for an indoor cycling app.
First up, let’s talk about the classes it offers.
There are 3 main classes you can cycle along to. These are:
- Performance Classes
- Challenge Classes
- Tempo Classes
These classes would be aimed at an experienced road cyclist or someone who is looking to improve their endurance.
These classes have long intervals with short recovery times.
They can last anywhere between 45-60 minutes.
These classes focus more on indoor cycling classes you would get at the gym.
These are HIIT classes where you will cycle at high intensity intervals between 30-90 seconds and then drop down again to low intensity for the same timeframe.
Here you’ll be switching between your aerobic and anaerobic systems which is going to use fat for fuel.
This is a class where you’ll be torching calories!
Finally the tempo classes are music focused classes where you cycle to the rhythm.
These classes more focus on RPM and cadence to really get those legs moving.
Here you’ll be listening to the music to increase your heart rate between 60-110 beats for minute (BPM).
Ciclozone also offer live classes from the app in their Ciclo TV section.
This is where you’ll be joining other riders in one big class where everyone has the same goals in mind.
From time to time shoutouts are given to new members when they hit new achievements.
Colour-Coded Training Zones
This is great.
This is where you’ll know what intensity to bring to the class.
The colours range from:
- White (free cycle) – this is normally used for cooldowns
- Blue – Active Recovery
- Green – Endurance
- Yellow – Tempo
- Red – V02 Max – This is where you’ll be maximising the amount of oxygen intake during intense periods
These colour-coded visuals allow you to see exactly what effort level you should be at and display your own exact metrics on-screen.
It’s a great way of keeping you in check making sure that you’re not pushing to hard during lower intensity levels but to make sure you’re not slacking when intensity should be increased.
How To Train With Ciclozone
So after you complete your FTP test, you can now take part in either the On-Demand or Live Classes.
At the bottom of the screen you’ll see the workout schedule and what effort levels you’ll be cycling up to.
The instructor will be there guiding you along and making sure you’re following the tempo of the class.
To the left of the screen you’ll see the class metrics of where you should be at during that certain point. To the right of the screen you’ll see your own real-time cycling metrics.
Finally, in the centre of the screen you’ll see a dial with numbers around it. This is where you need to focus on.
This will display your % of FTP you’re giving along with your cadence.
As you cycle through higher/ lower cadences along with different resistance levels, the dial will change colour and show what training zone you are in.
Simply use this guide and you’ll be guaranteed to work up a sweat.
Your Ride Analytics
This is a great place where you can measure your performance after each class.
Here you’ll be able to measure everything from your:
- BPM (Beats Per Minute)
- RPM (Cadence)
- Length of time training
- Calories Burned
Along with this will be displayed a graph of your FTP during your entire workout.
You can also measure up how well you performed during each training zone.
This is an awesome way of being able to see how hard you went during the class. You can then store and compare this to other classes you’ve taken to see your improvement overtime.
How To Connect Up To Ciclozone
There are a few different ways you can connect your bike up to Ciclozone.
First, if you are planning on using an outdoor bike, you can connect this up to a smart or turbo trainer.
Turn the Bluetooth on and it should pair automatically.
So for my setup I use my indoor bike – the Joroto X2.
Now this has no internal Bluetooth or ANT+ connectivity so I have to use other sensors.
To connect up and pull in my watts and power – I use my Favero Assioma Power Meter Pedals.
To connect up my cadence – I use my Wahoo RPM Cadence Sensor.
To connect up my heart rate – I use my Wahoo TICKR Heart Rate Monitor.
To connect these up you simply click on My Account, then click Actions.
Then click Bluetooth Devices and once you start pedalling you should see your sensors appear.
Simply click pair and the app will start talking to these devices.
Now you’re good to go with your first class!

What I Thought
So I have taken a good few of the classes at Ciclozone and I have to say – I am really impressed!
Like I said at the beginning of this article is that it seems there is a big focus now on personalised training and Ciclozone certainly are able to offer this service.
The instructors are great and teach the classes really well, telling you what’s coming next and where they expect you to be.
However, what really caught my attention is being able to see your own cycling metrics which is all displayed in colour (which by the way makes it a lot easier to understand when your gasping for breathe!)
By being able to see your metrics colour coded it keeps you in line of how much effort you should be given all the time.
A drop in cadence or power will result your colour dropping to the previous effort level. Too high cadence or power and you will go over where you should be.
Like I said, it just keeps you at the right pace and let’s you know if you’re working too hard or too little – you just simply adjust your resistance or cadence!
I highly recommend this app as it is an app for anybody, whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a complete newbie to indoor cycling.
Ciclozone will certainly get you into shape!

Power Meter Pedals: To measure my watts and power, I love the Favero Assioma Power Meter Pedals. You simply attach these to your bikes crank arms, start pedalling and it will automatically pull in your speed, cadence and power output.
