The Schwinn Airdyne AD8 is the latest air bike to be developed by leading bike manufacturer Schwinn.

It’s a well-designed air bike that provides the ultimate cardio workout that works both the upper and lower body at the exact same time.

Use your own energy to drive the fan wheel in front to create your own form of resistance by using the drag against the push of the air.

The harder you pedal and push – the more resistance your create leading to an awesome cardio workout!

Former models of the AD8 are the AD6 and AD2 however Schwinn has created the AD8 with a larger fan wheel, improved and raised LCD Display along with a more robust looking frame.

All your key metrics are displayed right in front of you such as Time, Distance, Calories Burned, RPM, Watts, Pulse and Speed.

If you take part or a fan of Crossfit, I’m sure you’ve seen these a lot.

These reason why?

Schwinn have really upped their game here with this redesigned air bike.

Schwinn created the two previous models of the AD2 & AD6 however comparing them to other air bikes on the market – they may not have been just on par.

However, with the AD8 it feels like they went back to the drawing board and amped up the bike to what people want to see in a great air bike.

Single Stage Belt Drive

Most air bikes on the market are chain driven – just like you would get with an ordinary outdoor bike.

However, the AD8 is one of the first to feature a belt drive system.

With every turn of the pedals, you’ll generate the belt which leads directly to the fan wheel.

One smooth direct system that makes it’s very quiet and very low maintenance.

Larger Fan Wheel

Compared to the AD2 & AD6, you’ll notice straight away the larger fan wheel.

Not only do I think it gives the bike more of a robust and durable look but it can actually make for a more intensive workout.

The larger fan wheel means the fan blades need more of your energy output to drive them around.

The AD8 has one of the largest screens you can get on any air bike.

It displays all the information you need to keep track of your progress so you can see how your workout is going.

The screen is very appealing and everything is laid out perfectly so you can see your workout data clearly.

There are on-display buttons that allow you to choose from up to 9 different programmes.

A RPM meter is also displayed at the top which basically tells you how much effort your putting through the pedals and handlebars to push the repetitions on the fan wheel.

Multiple Grip Points

The handlebars are designed with a fully ergonomic grip made from rubber.

It gives it a real authentic and proper grip for your hands.

There are 3 main grip points with high, low and side grips.

This gives you a greater range of motion but also allowing the right fit for you and what feels comfortable.

Workout Programs

So the Airdyne AD8 offers 9 workout programmes you can take that provide a great overall cardio workout.

Calorie Targets

You can use the bike has fast or as slow as you want until you reach your calories burned target.

Miles / Km Targets

Push as hard as you can go until you have reached a certain amount of miles or kilometres.

Time Targets

Count your time down and cycle as fast as you can go till time is up.

20/10 Intervals

Interval train with 20 seconds pushing as hard as you can go and active recover for 10 seconds.

30/90 Intervals

Interval train for 30 seconds and active recover for 90 seconds

Custom Intervals

Build you own interval training session;

Would I Recommend It?

Yes, definitely!

I mean I understand it comes with a larger price tag but for the value of money and the years worth of use you’ll get from it…it really does offer the best in a cardio workout.

I suppose it depends the type of person you are. You may be a person who prefers the feel and cycle of a spin bike over an air bike.

However, I think it’s a great buy for anyone who prefers short high intensity workouts and who wants to lose weight fast!

Studies have actually shown that Interval Training provided 28.5% greater reductions in total absolute fat mass (kg) than Moderate Intensity Continuous Training.

Conclusion

So looking at the Schwinn Airdyne AD8 on overall I must say I think it’s an absolute incredible air bike.

It’s really going to deliver one hell of a cardio workout that will have you melting fat whilst toning your arms, shoulders, core and legs all at the same time!

All you need is at the most up to 30 minutes on this bike and you’ll get a full effective workout that’s really going to boost your endurance through the roof!
